I began my career in the jewellery industry in 1985 working for an Auckland bullion company in their casting department. In my spare time, I was working with Peter Minturn, who taught me the finer points of goldsmithing and producing hand made jewellery.
Later an opportunity arose to learn gem setting so I spent the next few years adding this new discipline to my abilities.
As this opportunity came to an end I decided it was time to strike out on my own, and so began Laurie Kearns Jewellery Ltd.
At the beginning of 2005 I was invited to teach at the Peter Minturn Goldsmith school. This has provided me with a new challenge and I am constantly inspired by the creative energy which comes from the school. Visit the school's web site; at www.jewel.school.nz.
